Keeping Families Together was a parole in place process for certain spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens who entered the country without inspection. It was announced in August 2024 and filed on Form I-131F, entirely online.
It is not available now. On 7 November 2024 the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, in State of Texas v. Department of Homeland Security, vacated the process. USCIS responded by stopping adjudication of pending Form I-131F applications and ending intake of new ones, and it cancelled the biometrics appointments that went with them. The agency has since archived its own guidance page for the form as out of date.
If you filed before it stopped
A filed application is not an approval, and a pending one is not protection. If you filed and heard nothing, your case was caught by the shutdown rather than lost in a queue.
Anyone who did receive parole under the process before it ended is in a different position from someone whose application was never decided. That distinction matters, and it is worth confirming exactly what you hold before you act on it.
Why people wanted it
The appeal of parole in place was narrow but real. Entering without inspection normally blocks adjustment of status inside the United States, which pushes a spouse toward consular processing abroad, and leaving the country can trigger a three or ten year bar. Parole in place addressed the first problem without creating the second.
What is left
The underlying problem has not gone away, and neither have the other routes. Depending on the facts, they can include the provisional unlawful presence waiver on Form I-601A followed by consular processing, other waivers where a qualifying relative would suffer extreme hardship, and in some cases relief that has nothing to do with the marriage at all.
None of those are interchangeable, and the wrong one can make things worse. What each of them turns on is the entry history: how you came in, how many times, and what happened in between.
If you filed an I-131F, or you were planning to, bring what you have and we will tell you where you actually stand and which of the remaining routes fits. That conversation is worth having before anything else is filed.
